MoveM8 ("we", "us", "our") is a social events and activities platform operated by Aidan Maguire, based in Pretoria, South Africa. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the MoveM8 mobile application ("the App").

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa and applicable data protection laws.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. You may also provide your name, date of birth, gender, phone number, profile photo, bio, Instagram handle, fitness level, and interests.

Event information: When you create or join events, we collect event details including title, description, location, date/time, and cover photos.

Location data: With your permission, we collect your device location to show nearby events and display your position on the map. You can disable location access in your device settings at any time.

Communications: We store messages sent through group chats (per event) and direct messages between users.

Usage data: We collect information about how you use the App, including events viewed, search queries, and interactions with other users (follows, reviews, kudos).

Device information: We collect your device's push notification token to deliver notifications. We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or browsing history.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

• Provide and operate the App's features (event creation, discovery, chat, profiles)
• Show you relevant events based on your location and interests
• Enable social features (following, messaging, reviews)
• Send you push notifications about event updates, new followers, and messages
• Enforce our Terms of Service and protect user safety
• Improve the App based on usage patterns

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

• Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) - Your data is stored on Supabase's servers with encryption at rest. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Expo / EAS (push notifications) - Push tokens are processed through Expo's notification service. Expo Privacy Policy
• Google Maps (map display, location search) - Map data is provided by Google. Google Privacy Policy
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim (location search) - Address lookups may be processed through OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure. We implement the following security measures:

• All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
• Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using encrypted storage
• Database access is controlled through Row Level Security policies
• Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
• Profile photos and event images are stored in secure cloud storage buckets

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you disable your account, your data is preserved but hidden from other users. If you request account deletion, your account is disabled for 30 days (during which you can reactivate by logging in), after which all your data is permanently deleted.

Event data for completed activities is retained to support the review and rating system.

6. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a South African resident, you have the right to:

• Access your personal information (available in your profile and settings)
• Correct inaccurate information (edit your profile at any time)
• Delete your personal information (disable or delete your account in Settings)
• Object to the processing of your information
• Withdraw consent for optional data collection (location, notifications)
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

7. Children's Privacy

MoveM8 is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

8. Push Notifications

We send push notifications for event updates, new messages, follow requests, reviews, and other activity. You can control which notifications you receive in the App's Settings, or disable push notifications entirely through your device settings.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
